About
My name is Alaina Hoskins, and I’m a 56-year-old English major at the University of the District of Columbia with a 3.7 GPA. I’ve always had a deep love for reading, writing, and exploring the power of language. I was recently inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success, and I’m committed to both academic excellence and personal growth. As a non-traditional student, returning to college at this stage in life has been a rewarding journey. I’m passionate about using my voice to inspire others, especially women and young people, and I truly believe it’s never too late to follow your dreams. Becoming a member of the Honor Society is an opportunity I’m grateful for, and I look forward to continuing to grow and make meaningful connections along the way.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
I am currently completing my undergraduate degree in English and plan to pursue my MBA next, followed by a PhD in Urban Leadership with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. My goal is to use my education and life experience to lead programs that support small business development, especially for women and underserved communities. I’m passionate about creating opportunities through mentorship, innovation, and strategic leadership. Ultimately, I aim to help build stronger communities by equipping others with the tools they need to succeed in business and beyond.
- Graduate school interests
I am interested in pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) to deepen my understanding of strategic leadership, business development, and entrepreneurship. Following my MBA, I plan to earn a PhD in Urban Leadership with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. My graduate studies will focus on building solutions that address economic disparities in underserved communities, creating sustainable business models, and empowering future entrepreneurs—particularly women and youth. I am excited about the opportunity to expand my knowledge, enhance my leadership skills, and make a lasting impact through my work in both business and community development.
- Outside the classroom
In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, and journaling—especially pieces that inspire personal growth and reflection. I also love singing and have spent years participating in church choirs and praise teams. Creativity is a big part of who I am, so I find joy in event planning, creating empowering content for women and girls, and exploring new ways to express myself through fashion and storytelling. I also enjoy spending time with my family, especially my grandchildren, and finding simple moments of joy in everyday life.
Volunteering
-
I am a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, where I actively serve through programs that focus on social action, educational development, and uplifting underserved communities. In addition to my involvement with the sorority, I also volunteer independently. I mentor young girls, support single mothers, and help organize community events that promote leadership, wellness, and personal growth. Service is not just something I do—it's a part of who I am. I’m passionate about creating spaces where others feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
