About
My brain is wired to take a “deep dive” into problems that interest me, particularly in the fields of homeland security, cyber and computer forensics. I can maintain focus for long periods when a task challenges and captivates me, like being in a tunnel where I am compelled to find the “light” at the end. As I approach the next chapter in my life—college—I am excited to explore various avenues within homeland security and cyber, recognizing the skills necessary for my envisioned career.
My goal is not only to master the technical aspects of computer science/forensics as they are linked to homeland security, but also to understand the motives behind those who pursue criminal actions. As an investigator, I will delve into digital devices to uncover evidence for criminal investigations, civil cases, cyber crime investigations, and corporate security matters. The thrill of detecting the sequence of events and the technical processes behind crimes excites me, as does gaining insight into the psychology of criminals. My dad shares this fascination with criminal behavior, and we often engage in discussions, exchanging perspectives and hypotheses about different cases.
My curiosity extends to encompass everything happening in my surroundings. Relationships are vital to me; I want to understand the people around me and their interests. Throughout high school, I have actively participated in leadership and service opportunities within my school and community. Projects like Student Council, Student Leadership Representative, volunteering for Vacation Bible School and SECOR/Feed My Starving Children packaging meals for the underprivileged and homeless. This Spring, I embarked on a school-sponsored mission trip to Eastern Tennessee, where we helped the much needed victims and their communities with clean-up and construction as they continue to rebuild their lives post Hurricane Helene. These experiences of service have allowed me to make meaningful connections reaching far beyond my core social group.
Extracurricular activities are equally as important. I approach them with the same competitive spirit I apply to my academic goals. For instance, playing varsity tennis for three years and coaching younger kids has taught me the importance of diligence. Coaching requires me to consider how I communicate information, recognizing that a seven-year-old learning tennis is very different from a twenty-year-old. The mental competition in tennis also demands situational awareness and an understanding of the emotional perspectives of both my competitors and those I coach.
As a student and individual, I possess a breadth of perspectives that make me multidimensional and observant. I constantly ask the "why" and "how" questions before undertaking a task to gather all necessary information. This approach has guided me as I embark upon my college career prompting me to share and express my learning profile, interests, and career aspirations in homeland security, cyber and computer science and forensics.
