Hidden World

May 16,2016

Seize the day, seize the day they said, and make today extraordinary. These words translated into today's context means YOLO as said by Jack Black. Since when, do twelve year olds have the right to own an iPhone, when at that age I was struggling to keep my Tamagotchi alive. America is the land of the free and built of dreams...At least that is what we are convinced it is. Where education will reveal the smartest but hide the stupid. Where people are afraid to live fully in life, in fear that they’ll die tomorrow. If you pick up a newspaper and read it you’ll be misinformed of all that you’re reading but if you don’t read it you’re oblivious. You become more respected with the type of clothes you wear and the money you earn, than if you show up to a possible job interview with an off white, stained shirt and old combat boots. It is impossible to live happily if we are divided into different social classes, where the wealthy and intelligent join forces among one another to build an empire, while the rest of us help society and fight for a place in heaven or join the V.I.P. section in hell and mingle with Satan, basically we all know where I'm going by the time I finish this poem/sentence.

We say society is fucked, yet we are the same society that is complaining, furthermore, we are just fucked up people who contradict ourselves. The more I learn about America and their so called traditions, the more I like my dog because he’s (the most loyal creature you'll ever meet) loyal as fuck. History has a way of repeating itself, when we are young we believe the world is a happy place until well into our teen years, at about the age of fifteen where we learn that society is full of shit and wants us to be nothing but clones and pretend to be someone we’re not just to impress others, like "Pixel Perfect." We live in a society where a boy leaving a boy band makes headlines all over the world, but the fact that a child has been abducted didn't even make it to a simple alert. Sometimes, I wonder if the world is being run by stupid people, who will drag us down in order for us to vote based upon their lies and create a hashtag so we know whoever else is falling down the same rabbit hole Alice fell down years ago, in hope that we’ll find our way home without bumping into the caterpillar who only knows the date 4/20 on the calendar, he, who warns you about the evil queen who doesn’t care for your love and affection towards another person. Call me vain, but we go day by day looking at our reflection in a mirror a hundred times before we leave the house in wonder of who is the fairest of them all and then realize that the apple we have just bitten into is full of lies, just like the education system we are all forced to learn by. We become these people that say our hardest goodbye every morning at six am and say the best hello at twelve am, but in reality we just want to spend all day in bed and not participate in life.

We so badly want our lives to be like an episode of Friends, but yet we can't even come out of our rooms and socialize with the people around us, let alone how are we suppose to meet five other people in a coffee shop. We spend our tax dollars on trying to keep ourselves safe from terrorists, when we should just look in a mirror and realize that we’re the biggest terrorists of all. We no longer live in a time where Lincoln was honest, but now in a time where to be honest there must be money involved and possibly red ruby slippers, or even the voice of tritons daughter. We must strive to find our own voices in these lousy texts others have written but as we put these lines in our own words, the professor has the nerve to say that's not what the text means at all, maybe in their heads that is what the words say but in our interpretation we have found a new identity to the passage. People die left and right in battle and war, made by God just so we Americans know our geography and send nothing but a card and flowers to a funeral. God made plenty of idiots, but everyone needs a rough draft before a final product. "And in conclusion may I please remind you it does not say R.S.V.P. on the Statue of Liberty." Oh.. wait I just sounded Clueless, because we no longer have originality, but must continue to be copies of others and quote other people or every movie we've ever seen in hope people will think it's our own. As I leave you here to wonder what the hell I just read, I must end with this quote “We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are the members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.” -Dead Poets Society.
