Tori Owens, Honor Society Emerging Leaders Scholarship Recipient

My name is Tori Owens and I am a freshman at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia. I am majoring in Public Relations and I am also on the golf team at KSU. In my free time I love to cook, and I also love spending time with my dog C.J. This scholarship will help me achieve one of my biggest educational goals and that is to have a bachelor’s degree by the time I am 20 years old. Taking many dual enrollment classes in high school, it put me almost two years ahead of my fellow collegiate acquaintances that are my age. This scholarship will ease some of my stress of not having to worry about different payment methods my family and I must acquire.

1.Will your school have on campus classes or completely online next Fall? What are your thoughts about that?

My school is planning to have on campus classes next Fall. I believe to be optimistic and hope COVID-19 is lowering in numbers by then.

2. How do you think technology will shape our future going forward from a personal and or macro perspective?

I believe technology is the number one influencer in how our future will be shaped, from a personal and macro standpoint. I believe our world will be a lot more technologically advanced in the next decade because of everything being discovered in this time frame.

3. Do you think your major (if applicable) is well positioned for the future? If not, are you considering changing?

I am a Public Relations major, so I believe my major will be applicable in future. It requires communication to the publics and maintaining beneficial relationships between different corporations as well as society.

4. Honor Society is committed to philanthropy and making our community a better place.  Honor Society is very happy to be awarding you a scholarship. We however ask that you pay it forward with a small act of kindness. Please send us details of your act of kindness as well as how it made you feel.

My act of kindness will be helping my sweet grandmother with her yardwork. I always enjoy helping her do activities that she is no longer able to do by herself. It allows me to spend quality time with her as well as making me feel better that her house is being taken care of.

5. In the current global climate, what are your thoughts regarding online organizations and the importance of remaining connected while socially distant?

Remaining connected while socially distant is very important because the transition to everything being from home can have a psychological effect whether people realize it or not. Being connected to different aspects of society while still being distant can help keep a healthy mindset.

6. Now more than ever, humanitarian causes are aiding suffering people around the world. What causes are important to you, and how do you plan to incorporate them going forward?

One of my favorite organizations is habitat for humanity. It is a great organization for helping people build homes and/or communities. I think it is a great cause to help contribute to because they are not asking you for money but rather just asking to lend a helping hand. In the future, I would like to help contribute my time to this organization because I would like to improve someone’s home and quality of life.
