Why I chose my major and why I love it

Mar 29,2016

I am currently in my second semester of junior year in Nursing school. I am attending Alverno College, a private all girls Catholic school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Nursing school is the best and yet hardest decision I have ever made. Nursing school was rated one of the hardest majors to complete in the Guinness world record book a few years back. At the age of 11, I went to visit my grandpa in a nursing home and believe it or not at that age I saw the way those nurses care for him. I wanted to touch lives like those who touched my grandpas. I also saw my grandma care for my grandpa who was a nurse. At the age 14, I got a job working in a retirement home. The geriatric population was always my passion and helping them out and seeing them smile and be appreciated made me fall in love even more with the profession. By the time I was a senior I got my CNA license and started working as an aid the day after I turned 18. The satisfaction and happiness I get from helping patients who are not in their best state really motivated me to get into nursing. Of course there was many times I reconsidered if I was doing the right thing with my life while being in school. There has been countless days staying at school for ten hours and countless nights of studying, reading and note taking. I missed out a lot in my life but the day I put on my school uniform and go into the hospital is the day I feel like I am in the right place. It brings me countless satisfaction and happiness knowing that I have impacted lives for the better. Nursing school is no piece of cake but it is so worth it and will lead me and others to strive for endless possibilities and opportunities.
