Honor Society® Expert FAQ

How can you regain financial aid eligibility?

The way to regain financial-aid eligibility depends on why it was lost. Missing paperwork, an eligibility error, unsatisfactory academic progress, and loan-related issues require different remedies.

What to know before you act

For SAP, follow the school’s reinstatement or appeal policy. An appeal usually needs an explanation of the circumstances and what has changed, along with a realistic academic plan where required. Sitting out a term or paying out of pocket does not by itself prove that SAP standards are met.

Ask which aid programs are affected and when a successful correction can take effect. A scholarship renewal appeal may be separate from federal-aid reinstatement. Keep copies of decisions and avoid assuming a verbal assurance means funding has been restored.

Your next steps

  • Obtain the exact reason and applicable policy in writing.
  • Complete the required corrective steps or appeal.
  • Verify reinstatement and the revised award before relying on funds.

For the next step, use the fafsa preparation guide. Organize documents, contributor steps, award years, and follow-up tasks.
