Honor Society® Expert FAQ
How long should a college résumé be?
One page is a useful default for many college student résumés because it encourages clear selection of relevant evidence. It is not a universal rule; academic CVs and some specialized applications have different expectations.
Let relevance and application instructions set the limit
If your résumé runs long, remove repetition and less relevant details before shrinking the font or margins. An entry-level employer should be able to scan your education, strongest experience, and skills without decoding dense paragraphs. A second page is more defensible when it contains substantial relevant work, not a few overflow lines.
Follow explicit page limits and the requested document type. A résumé emphasizes selected evidence for a role; an academic CV may include a fuller record of research, publications, teaching, and presentations. Check which one the application actually asks for.
Your next steps
- Check the requested document type and any page limit.
- Prioritize recent, relevant evidence and concise bullets.
- Review the exported document for readability and awkward page breaks.
