Honor Society® Expert FAQ

What should go on a student résumé?

A student résumé should include contact details, education, relevant experience, and skills you can demonstrate. Projects, campus leadership, volunteering, and honors belong when they add useful evidence for the position.

Include information that helps assess your fit

Use a professional email address and make portfolio links work. List your degree accurately, including an expected graduation date if you have not completed it. Separate paid jobs, projects, and activities when that makes the document clearer; there is no requirement to disguise unpaid work as employment.

Omit sensitive personal details that are not needed for the application. In a typical U.S. résumé, a photo, birth date, and marital status are unnecessary. Follow local conventions if applying elsewhere. Every section should help the reader understand your preparation rather than fill space.

Your next steps

  • Choose sections based on the role and your evidence.
  • Label education and experience accurately.
  • Remove irrelevant details and test every included link.
