Honor Society® Expert FAQ
Should you include GPA on your résumé?
Include GPA on your résumé when the employer requests it or when it meaningfully supports your application. There is no universal cutoff that applies to every field, employer, or stage of your career.
Use GPA when requested or when it adds useful evidence
Report the figure accurately and identify the scale when helpful. If you list a major GPA, label it clearly rather than presenting it as your overall GPA. Follow application instructions about rounding, transcripts, and minimum requirements; omitting GPA from a résumé does not remove a required application question.
As relevant professional experience grows, GPA may become less useful than demonstrated work. If your GPA is not a strength and it is optional, focus on projects, skills, and achievements you can substantiate. Do not manipulate the calculation or substitute a favorable figure without explanation.
Your next steps
- Check whether the employer requires GPA or a transcript.
- Use the correct figure, label, and scale.
- Decide whether GPA adds evidence beyond stronger experience.
