Honor Society’s 10 Core Values | Principles in Practice
WHAT GUIDES HONOR SOCIETY®
Values become meaningful through action.
Honor Society’s ten core values guide how we pursue achievement, approach challenges, and support one another. They encourage learning, initiative, and purposeful growth in the classroom, at work, and in everyday life.
You do not need a leadership title to put these principles into practice. Start with a choice you can make today, then build on it.
Our ten core values
1. Pursue Excellence
Set thoughtful standards and give your work the care it deserves. Keep learning from each attempt.
In practice: Choose one skill to improve, practice it, and ask for useful feedback.
2. Innovate and Drive Change
Look for better ways to solve problems. Turn a useful idea into a step that helps others.
In practice: Notice a recurring challenge in your group and suggest one improvement to test.
3. Embrace Knowledge and Intellectual Pursuits
Stay curious, ask thoughtful questions, and keep learning in school, at work, and throughout life.
In practice: Explore an unfamiliar subject and compare reliable sources before drawing a conclusion.

4. Seek Growth and Progress
Make room for new experiences and steady improvement. Reflect on what you learn as your goals evolve.
In practice: Break a goal into a manageable next step and review your progress each week.
5. Be Bold, Creative, and Open-Minded
Share your ideas, explore possibilities, and make space for perspectives different from your own.
In practice: Contribute a new approach to a discussion, then listen carefully to the response.
6. Pursue Leadership and Take Initiative
Take responsibility, follow through, and help a shared effort move forward. Leadership begins with action.
In practice: Volunteer for a useful task and keep the people counting on you informed.
7. Build a Positive Team and Family Spirit
Create a sense of belonging through respect, encouragement, and support. Help the people around you feel included.
In practice: Welcome someone new, recognize a teammate’s contribution, and share credit.
8. Do More With Less
Use your time, knowledge, and resources thoughtfully. Approach constraints with resourcefulness and care.
In practice: Identify the most important next step and make good use of the tools already available.
9. Be Passionate and Determined
Give meaningful goals sustained attention. Meet challenges with persistence and a willingness to adjust your approach.
In practice: Reconnect with why a goal matters, then choose a realistic action to keep it moving.
10. Be Humble
Stay willing to learn, appreciate others’ contributions, and consider how your choices affect the people around you.
In practice: Ask for help when you need it, acknowledge a mistake, and thank someone who helped.
Choose one value for the week ahead
Pick a principle that connects with a goal you care about. Decide what it will look like in action, try it, and reflect on what you learn. A small, thoughtful choice is a useful place to begin.
