About (Summary)

I am a passionate individual devoted to learning and teaching others about the intricacies of science. I possess a Bachelor's of Science in Biological Sciences Degree with cum laude distinction from Florida State University located in Tallahassee, Florida. I returned home to my birth city in order to pursue a Masters in Public Health in Environmental & Occupational Health at Florida International University. I have served as a teaching assistant for an above 300 student Anatomy & Physiology Course during my final year at Florida State University. The experience helped me garner a position as a graduate research assistant in my first semester of graduate school proving to be a wonderful opportunity for my professional growth. I served as a graduate teaching assistant for an 83 student Global Health Without Borders course at Florida International University where I organized the final group health poster symposium, aided in the preparation of exam material, and graded short topic essays for all exam answers. Furthermore, I devoted at least 20 volunteer hours each week at the Environmental Genomics Lab and presented weekly progress reports on my research initiative on aggressive stem cells that originate at the onset of Breast Cancer via NRF1 gene network deregulation of oxidative stress inhibitors. Over the past year I have developed my skills in both teaching and in the laboratory. My first graduate research paper entry on my Portfolium student networking page was awarded staff pick for best graduate work entry and currently has above 1,000 views from various individuals across the world. My future research/career interests would be to research diseases generally associated with aging (cancers, heart disease, Alzheimer's, etc.) at the molecular level and how they relate to what were exposed to from our external environment each day. I wish to apply for the PHD program at my department and expound upon the cancer research I have conducted as a first year graduate student. My career goal is to become a leading pioneer research scientist in environmental exposure related diseases.
