Honor Society for Teachers & Educators

Honor Society® · Teachers & educators

You help others grow.
Your ambitions belong here, too.

Yes, teachers are welcome to join Honor Society. Classroom teachers, professors, instructors, school counselors, education professionals, and retired educators can become individual members at HonorSociety.org. You do not need to be a current student.

Honor Society is an independent national membership organization supporting academic, professional, and personal growth. Explore resources for your own goals and find clear information to share when students ask about membership.

Open membership. No minimum GPA to join. See membership requirements.

A place for the educator—and the person behind the role.

Teaching asks you to invest in other people’s futures. You also have goals of your own: continuing your education, sharing your experience, exploring a new direction, or making more time for the interests that matter to you. We welcome that part of your story.

Whether you are starting your teaching career, leading a department, working as a substitute or adjunct, or enjoying retirement, you are welcome to explore membership for yourself.

  • Keep learning and exploring

Browse educational content and career resources as you consider your next step. Start with the current member benefits to see which tools fit your interests and membership level.

  • Tell your professional story

Use your member profile to introduce your teaching interests, education, leadership, and community service. A clear profile can bring together the work you are proud of and the goals you want to pursue.

  • Find benefits for everyday life

Review available dining, travel, learning, and other member offers. Compare the details with what you would actually use; access and provider terms vary by benefit and membership level.

Useful answers for the students who turn to you.

When a student brings you a membership invitation or a scholarship question, a few clear next steps can help them make an informed decision. These public resources can support that conversation alongside the guidance your school already provides.

  • Understand an invitation

Help students distinguish an invitation to join from an academic award or scholarship offer. The Transparency Center explains Honor Society’s membership model and what its communications mean.

  • Explore scholarship opportunities

Point students to Honor Society scholarships and encourage them to check each award’s requirements and deadline. Paid membership is not required to apply; selection is competitive.

  • Prepare for the next conversation

Ask students what they hope to accomplish: explore a career, describe a service project, or prepare an application. The university relations and student resources page offers a starting point for educators.

A practical question to ask: “Which resource would you use, and how would it help with a goal you already have?” That keeps the conversation focused on relevance, effort, and the student’s own choices.

  • A clear membership model

Honor Society welcomes students and professionals across fields. Membership is non-selective; academic recognition follows separate GPA criteria. Review eligibility and recognition.

Honor Society for teachers: frequently asked questions

Can teachers and professors join Honor Society?

Yes. Teachers, professors, instructors, counselors, and other education professionals are welcome to join Honor Society as individual members. Retired educators are welcome, too. Start your membership and choose the educational or professional status that describes your circumstances.

Do educators need a nomination or a minimum GPA?

No school nomination or minimum GPA is required to join Honor Society. Membership is open to people pursuing academic, professional, or personal growth. GPA-based academic recognition has its own published criteria; joining and receiving an academic honorific are separate. Read the requirements.

Do I need to enroll my students or organize a campus chapter?

No. You can join for your own interests and goals. Individual membership does not require organizing a chapter or referring students. If you are looking for information for a class, department, or institution, visit University Relations.

What does Honor Society membership cost for teachers?

Free Basic membership is available. Premium membership provides additional benefits and is billed every six months, with automatic renewal until canceled. Compare the current membership options and dues and the resources included before choosing a plan. The price and terms for your selected plan are shown before purchase.

What benefits can teachers use?

Educators can explore the member resources available with their chosen membership level, including educational and career content, a member profile, and participating discount programs. Specific offers depend on membership level, availability, and provider terms. Review current benefits and access details.

Can teachers apply for Honor Society scholarships?

A teacher may apply if they meet the requirements of the specific award. For example, an educator pursuing further study should check the applicable enrollment and degree criteria. Being a teacher or a member does not establish eligibility for every scholarship. Check current scholarship requirements.

Do students have to buy Premium membership to apply for scholarships?

No. Paid membership is not required to apply for Honor Society scholarships. An application may require a free account. Each award has its own eligibility criteria and selection process, and submitting an application does not guarantee an award.

Does a student’s invitation mean their school nominated them?

An invitation from HonorSociety.org introduces an independent membership opportunity. It does not, by itself, establish a school nomination, verified class rank, or scholarship award. If a student wants help understanding a particular message, contact Honor Society directly with the relevant question.

Does membership provide a teaching credential or continuing education credit?

Honor Society membership itself is not a teaching license, academic degree, or professional certification. Before counting a course or activity toward continuing education, check that offering’s documentation and your employer’s or licensing authority’s requirements.

How should a teacher decide whether membership is worthwhile?

Start with your own priorities and the resources you expect to use. Review access, provider conditions, and any recurring cost. A profile may help you organize your professional story; a learning resource may fit a specific goal. Membership does not guarantee advancement, employment, admission, or a scholarship.

Questions and ideas from educators are welcome.

Have a question about your membership, a resource students are asking about, or an idea for supporting learners? Tell us what would be useful. Include your role and the page or program you are asking about so our team can understand the context.

Member Services: Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern Time, excluding holidays.

You spend your days encouraging others to take their next step. We welcome you as you take yours.
