Honor Society® Expert FAQ
Is Honor Society® affiliated with my college?
Honor Society® at honorsociety.org is a private, independent organization. Its published disclosures state that it is not affiliated with or endorsed by colleges or universities. An invitation does not establish approval by your school.
Ask the school about school-controlled decisions
Membership, school recognition, and permission to wear regalia are separate matters. Your college controls its academic honors, student-organization recognition, and commencement rules. A reference to your school in a message or profile does not by itself show an institutional partnership.
You can still evaluate an independent organization on the services and recognition it actually offers. The important step is to describe that relationship accurately. Joining Honor Society does not enroll you in a university honors college or place a distinction on your academic transcript.
Put the answer into practice
- Read the Transparency Statement for the organization’s role.
- Ask your school directly about a specific campus activity or ceremony rule.
- Check who issued any invitation, certificate, or academic honor.
- Keep written clarification if permission affects your plans.
A useful question is: “Does our school permit this organization’s regalia at commencement?” That gives the school a concrete decision to address without assuming an affiliation.
