Honor Society® Expert FAQ

Can nonprofits offer student scholarships?

Yes. Some nonprofit organizations offer student scholarships as part of their mission. Awards may focus on a community, field of study, financial need, service, or another purpose. Nonprofit status alone does not establish an award’s fit or current availability.

Review the program as carefully as the organization

Community foundations, civic organizations, and professional groups may administer awards directly or use another organization for applications. Confirm who is responsible for selection, communication, and payment. Read the current eligibility and permitted-use rules.

A provider’s past giving or public profile does not guarantee that a particular message is authentic. Find the official application route independently, and question requests for payment to release an award or for account passwords.

Put the answer into practice

  • Verify the organization and scholarship program.
  • Check the current award cycle and eligibility.
  • Identify the administrator and contact route.
  • Read the acceptance, payment, and renewal terms.

Use the local scholarship search guide to find organizations connected to your community. Build an application around the award’s actual purpose rather than relying on a broad description of the provider’s mission.
