Honor Society® Expert FAQ

Can scholarships pay for summer classes?

Some scholarships can pay for summer classes, but many awards are limited to specified terms or require separate approval. Check the award letter and ask your financial aid office before assuming unused funds will carry into summer.

Confirm the term and course requirements

The provider may require a minimum credit load, approved coursework, or enrollment at a particular institution. A summer course taken elsewhere can raise transfer-credit and funding questions even if it helps your degree plan.

Ask whether summer use reduces the number of funded terms or the amount remaining for the following academic year. Payment timing and scholarship renewal review dates can also differ from fall and spring. A remaining balance is not automatic permission to use it in another term.

Put the answer into practice

  • Check whether summer is an eligible funding period.
  • Confirm the course and enrollment requirements.
  • Ask whether a separate request or application is needed.
  • Understand the effect on future scholarship eligibility.

Use a specific inquiry: “Can this award fund these summer courses, and would that reduce later funding?” Get the answer before making a plan that depends on the money.
