Honor Society® Expert FAQ
How do you cite AI-generated material?
Cite AI-generated material according to the required style and disclose its role as the instructor requests. Citation and permission are separate: acknowledging AI does not make a prohibited use acceptable.
Follow both the assignment policy and the required style
Current style guidance may ask for the assistant or model, the generated material or prompt, the date, and retrievable details when appropriate. Keep the conversation or relevant output privately so you can document what happened. Do not publish a shared chat containing sensitive information merely to create a citation.
If AI points you to a real article, read and cite that article for the evidence you actually use. A process statement can explain assistance such as brainstorming or feedback, while direct use of generated wording may need additional attribution. Ask the instructor how these requirements apply to the specific assignment.
Your next steps
- Confirm AI permission and the required citation style.
- Record the product, date, relevant input, and assistance received.
- Cite original evidence and disclose AI use accurately.
