Honor Society® Expert FAQ

How do you transfer colleges?

To transfer colleges, research the receiving school’s requirements, compare how your credits apply, submit the required application and records, and confirm costs before committing. Admission, credit evaluation, and financial aid are separate decisions.

Build the transfer plan around your destination degree

Begin with the reason for the move: a particular major, affordability, location, or a better learning environment. Check whether the intended major has its own prerequisites, application, or deadline. Request a preliminary credit review when available, then build a term-by-term degree plan with the receiving adviser. A large number of accepted credits does not necessarily mean every credit advances the major.

Keep your current enrollment and housing decisions coordinated with the new school’s timeline. Review aid offers, scholarship conditions, deposits, and outstanding tasks before withdrawing. Honor Society’s honors-transfer guide provides additional questions for students considering an honors program. Your existing achievements remain valuable evidence of preparation as you build relationships and academic momentum at the new institution.

Your next steps

  • Confirm both university and major admission requirements.
  • Request a written credit evaluation and degree plan.
  • Compare total remaining costs and complete both schools’ transition steps.
