About
Amanda Condon is a non-traditional student attending Arkansas Tech University in pursuit of an M.S. in Homeland Security. Condon established the first student-led community club in Southwest Arkansas, the Arklatex Nontraditional Student Alliance. She has a mission to empower other students by assisting them in navigating academia, securing financial aid, and volunteering her time to help others overcome adversity associated with college. She travels across the United States to present at conferences in hopes that she will raise awareness to the needs of non-traditional students. Condon is nationally recognized by different organizations such as Phi Theta Kappa, the Association for Non-traditional Students in Higher Education, Pearson, and the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund. Condon served as Vice President of her local Phi Theta Kappa Chapter and currently serves as the Regional Vice President of the Arkansas/Oklahoma Alumni chapter. Condon is also an American Red Cross Disaster Responder. She has a passion for humanitarianism and philanthropy. Condon aspires to become the Executive Director of FEMA after graduation. As a single parent; Condon strives to be an outstanding role model for her three children. She believes the greatest impact on their lives will be the example she has demonstrated to persevere through all adversity preventing her from completing her education.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
I aspire to become the Executive Director of FEMA. I want to strengthen our nation's Emergency Management processes by supporting education and restructuring our emergency preparedness procedures in each state.
- Graduate school interests
My undergraduate studies will be in Emergency Management and my graduate studies in Homeland Security. I want to research new methods of educating the public on emergency preparedness. I believe that if we educate more of the public, we will have more efficiency when dealing with natural or manmade disasters. I hope to formulate a new strategy for governments to employ in the future.
- Outside the classroom
Many of my hobbies fall into three categories: seeking knowledge, mentoring others, and exploring nature. I am raising three small children at home, and our lives are anything but traditional. When I am not at school or working on community service projects, I am online searching articles or reading a book while trying to cook dinner. Multi-tasking has become second nature to me, and I love having the ability to accomplish more than one thing at a time.
I have a natural ability to mentor others. Maybe it is because I can relate to so many walks of life and the level of perceptiveness that I have. This is not a burden to me at all, and I enjoy being a leader. Somehow, I can inspire people to pursue courageously their higher education, despite any obstacles in their way.
As a single mother, I have been able to explore some the most creative adventures possible to give the quality of time to my children when the quantity of time is absent. We enjoy hiking, mountain climbing, canoeing, kayaking, and other outdoor activities. There is nothing like a climbing a mountain with your kids. When you see their faces as they reach the summit, the accomplished confidence that they feel, and the lasting impact on your relationship is hands down the greatest activity I can do with my children.
