Honor Society® Expert FAQ
Can you wear multiple honor cords at graduation?
You can wear multiple honor cords only if your school’s ceremony rules permit them and you meet the relevant requirements for each item. There is no universal number that every graduation allows.
Confirm the full combination
Some schools permit several cords and stoles; others restrict outside items or specify an arrangement. Ask about the complete set you intend to wear, especially if it includes a hood, medals, or organizational regalia. A seller’s description cannot override school rules.
Keep track of what each item represents. Two cords may recognize different achievements, but a decorative combination does not establish a new academic title. Your résumé and captions should describe the underlying honors or affiliations accurately.
Put the answer into practice
- List each item and the organization that issued it.
- Confirm your eligibility for each one.
- Ask the commencement office about limits and placement.
- Test the outfit for comfort and secure movement.
If an item is not permitted during the ceremony, ask whether there is an appropriate alternative such as a separate photo. The cords guide helps distinguish recognition from ceremony permission.
