Honor Society® Expert FAQ

Can you get an internship after college?

You can get an internship after college if the employer accepts recent graduates or applicants who are no longer enrolled. Some programs require current student status, so eligibility matters more than the internship label.

Read graduate eligibility before investing time

Look for recent-graduate programs, fellowships, trainee roles, and entry-level jobs alongside internships. Compare the work, pay, supervision, and learning goals. A short internship may help you enter a new field, but repeating internships without growing responsibility is not automatically better than taking a suitable permanent role.

If a posting requires academic credit, ask whether recent graduates can participate and how that requirement is satisfied. Do not claim current enrollment if you have graduated. Explain why this particular work fits your next step and what relevant skills you can contribute from your degree, employment, or projects.

Your next steps

  • Check graduation-date and enrollment restrictions.
  • Compare internships with paid trainee and entry-level roles.
  • Set a concrete learning goal and a sustainable financial plan.
