Honor Society® Expert FAQ
Can you transfer a scholarship to another school?
Some outside scholarships can follow you to another eligible college, but institutional scholarships usually remain tied to the school that awarded them. The provider must approve any transfer permitted by its rules.
What to know before you act
Check whether the new institution, degree, enrollment status, and start term satisfy the award terms. Do not assume a scholarship travels with federal aid or with your academic credits. The receiving school must also coordinate the award with its own package.
Get a transfer-specific aid offer before committing. Ask about new student scholarships, transfer awards, and departmental funding at the destination. Honor Society’s directory can broaden that search beyond one campus, while each provider’s current rules determine whether an award fits your transfer plan.
Your next steps
- Request written portability instructions from the provider.
- Tell both schools about money already disbursed.
- Compare the new school’s full net cost and renewal requirements.
For the next step, use the scholarship directory. Find additional award leads and check each provider’s eligibility and application rules.
