Honor Society® Expert FAQ
How do AI study assistants work?
AI study assistants generate explanations, questions, or feedback from your input and their underlying models. Some also retrieve information from supplied documents or connected sources, but access to a document does not guarantee a faithful answer.
Generated responses need source checks and student judgment
The assistant may misunderstand a question, omit a condition, or invent a plausible detail. A response that sounds like a tutor can still be wrong. Ask it to identify the source passage for a claim, then check that passage yourself; a reference label is only useful when it points to real supporting evidence.
Choose a small task whose quality you can judge, such as checking your explanation against an assigned definition. Keep course rules in mind and avoid outsourcing the reasoning the assignment is meant to assess. Human guidance remains important when you cannot identify why an answer fails.
Your next steps
- Know what sources the assistant can actually access.
- Check important claims against the original material.
- Use feedback to improve your own explanation or solution.
